CaNickel Mining Reports Winter Drilling Results from Thomson Nickel Belt Exploration Project

CaNickel Mining, a Canada-based junior mining firm, has reported that drill results have been released from the 2012 program carried out during the winter season at the M11A area, which is a deposit of the Thomson Nickel Belt exploration project located in Manitoba.

This M11A deposit lies about 4 km towards the northern part of the Bucko Lake mine and milling operations, adjacent to the town of Wabowden in Manitoba. The drilling campaign was specifically designed to expand the deposit along strike and towards the depth, and to report additional definition of the present known mineralization.

The company has drilled 7,157 m and also assayed 1,519 samples in this 12-hole drill campaign. On 5 March 2012, it reported the results of the initial three holes. CaNickel intersected 2.59% nickel over 7.3 m in hole 12-02; 2.24% nickel over 5.3 m in hole M12 – 07; 1.20% nickel over 10.4 m in hole M12 – 08; and 1.21% nickel over 12.9 m and 1.17% nickel over 12.9 m in hole M12 – 09.

Several ground geophysical surveys were performed by Xstrata Nickel over the M11A ultramafic at the M11A deposit area, from 1959 onwards. Consolidated Marbenor drilled 46 diamond holes between 1959 and 1961. Subsequently, Xstrata drilled 11 holes during the 1960s. Xstrata outlines the M11A ultramafic area for over 4 km, wherein drill testing has been conducted for an area below 2.5 km.

Earlier, the company reported that it discovered considerable nickel mineralization in 2006 and conducted drill campaigns in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011. It was unable to test the zones along strike and depth towards southwest, because of logistics and weather problems during the 2009 winter drilling. These areas were the focus of this year’s winter drilling for definition.

CaNickel is reviewing the drill campaign results at the M11A deposit and revising the resource estimates at M11A region.
