Copper Futures Rise to 26 Month Peak

Copper Futures have risen to a 26 month peak on the second straight day on Wednesday. Copper for December delivery HGZ0 ended up 2.65 cents at $3.7530 per lb on the COMEX metals division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Fortescue Metals Settles Shipping Dispute

A terminated shipping contract has cost Fortescue Metals Group US$ 3.7 million. The iron ore miner had cancelled a five year shipping contract with Armada in January 2009. The Singapore based Armada then brought arbitration proceedings against Fortescue seeking alleged damages worth US$70 million.

Queensland Rail has seen enormous investor interest in the planned IPO of freight arm QR National. The Queensland Rail chief Lance Hockridge was addressing a business breakfast in Brisbane when he said that the pre-registration for QR National shares would be closing on Friday.
