Uranium North Resource Starts Drilling Program at Amer Lake Project

Uranium North Resource has begun the drilling program at its Amer Lake project in Nunavut. This drilling program is planned to examine the strike of the Main Zone deposit for further uranium mineralization so as to increase the current 19.3 million pound uranium resource.

French Uranium Company Areva Eyes Koongarra, Northern Territory

French Nuclear Energy company Areva has expressed plans to mine for uranium in an area called Koongarra in the Northern Territory of Australia. However the small area has been donated by the traditional owner Jeffrey Lee to the Commonwealth and the Federal Government wants to include it in the world hertitage listed Kakadu National Park.

The Tanzania parliament has approved a five year development plan which includes an Australian inspired super-profit tax for the mining industry. The $27.4 billion development plan hopes to earn revenue from the mineral resources of the nation.

Draft Mining Tax Released by Australian Government

A draft of the proposed Minerals Resource Rent Tax (MRRT) has been released by the Treasury department of the Australian government. The new tax is a compromise which resulted after Kevin Rudd’s tax was rejected outright by the mining industry. The original resources supertax is what caused the ouster of the former Prime Minister after vehement opposition was seen to the tax proposal.

Uranium Resources Receives Permit to Explore Los Finados Project in Texas

Uranium Resources has received permit from the Railroad Commission of Texas’ Surface Mining and Reclamation Division to execute the exploratory drilling at the 54,847 acres in Kenedy County, Texas, which is called as the ‘Los Finados Project.’
