Nevada Exploration (NGE) announced that Northgate Minerals has mustered a diamond rig to commence the 2011 drilling program at the Awakening Gold Project.
Northgate anticipates that it will drill to nearly 3,000 m. The company may complete this program in four to six weeks, and the drilling results will be released in the fall.
The low sulphidation geologic target containing silver and gold deposit occurs in the quartz-adularia vein layers in the tertiary volcanic rocks. The location of the project is 50 km northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and encloses the northwest part of the historic Awakening mining district. The project is adjacent to the north end of the earlier producing Sleeper Gold Mine that produced 2.3 Moz silver and 1.7 Moz gold. This project has 432 NGE claims being progressed by Northgate, according to an Exploration and Option to Joint Venture deal, and 15 claims that are under lease from DIR Exploration that is being progressed by NGE.
The CEO and President of NGE, has stated that the project shows a significant pediment project in Nevada. Northgate and NGE have jointly worked to proceed with this covered bedrock target by employing on the house geochemistry and geophysics methods involving NGE's hydrogeochemistry technology. The drilling program shows that Northgate will have the ability to test the bedrock across the Project.
