The Andina Copper mine in Chile has resumed full production with mine workers returning to work after heavy rainfall and landslides had prevented access on Feb 11. The state owned mine in central Chile is now functioning normally as per officials.

Rio Tinto to Invest $1.2 Billion in Australian and Canadian Iron Ore Operations

Rio Tinto is to invest $1.2 billion to expand mining operations in Australia and Canada. The mining giant intends to spend $933 million on the Marandoo iron ore mine in Australia to prolong its life by another 16 years till 2030. Another $277 million will be invested in the Iron Ore Company of Canada to raise concentrate production capacity by 40% to 26 million tonnes annually.

Newmont Mining Corporation hopes to more than double its gold production in Africa by 2015. The projects in Ghana will help the company to produce 1.2 million ounces as per a senior executive of the company.

Semafo Expands Burkina Faso Gold Production

Semafo Inc. announced this week that it was expanding the yearly capacity of the processing plant at its mine in Burkina Faso. The Mana Mine will see an extra 26,000 to 30,000 ounces of gold being produced for the company which is based in Montreal. This is the fourth phase of plant expansion at the mine.

The Marandoo iron ore mine owned by Rio Tinto has seen developments which would possibly extend its life by another 16 years. The mining giant has now approved a $933 million investment in to the mine which will see its life span extended to 2030.
