The final chapter in the tragedy at Pike River Coal Mine came into play when the New Zealand Police Commissioner Howard Broad said it was too dangerous to attempt to find the bodies and he would not put additional lives at risk. South Heart Coal Completes Dakota Mine Application

South Heart Coal LLC has filed their application to build the 4,600-acre project new coal mine in southwestern North Dakota. They are hoping to supply lignite to a $2.2 billion electric power plant that a separate company, South Heart Energy Development LLC, plans to build nearby. Upper Hunter Mine Expansions Approved
