Reuters reports protests at a proposed copper mine in Peru. The Tia Maria mine, owned by the Southern Copper Corp., is located in the Peruvian province of Islay. The protests are headed by farmers from different community groups such as the Association for Sustainable Development in the Tambo Valley and the Front for the Defence of the Tambo Valley.

Iron Ore Holdings had made a bid for Baffinland Iron Ore Mines offering 80 cents a share for Baffinland on September 22. The original deadline which was due to expire has been extended to December 2, 2010.
China seems to have reduced its iron ore imports from India over the last few months. The general trend has been emerging in the global markets but now facts have come to light with concrete data to support it.

29 miners trapped in a Chinese mine were rescued on Monday. The China Central Television broadcast live images of people being rescued from the coal mine in the Sichuan province.

Anglo American has decided to sell the Callide thermal coal mine in central Queensland located south west of Gladstone. The decision comes as the mining company wants to maintain focus on its high margin export businesses. No value has been placed on the Callide mine by the company.
WPG Resources Ltd (ASX:WPG) announced that it had raised $85 million to develop the flagship project of the company, Peculiar Knob. The company formerly known as Western Plains Resources is also looking forward to raising an additional $75 million by placement of 110.3 million ordinary shares at 68 cents each.
